Senior Management today provoked outrage amongst many Sixth Formers after an emergency assembly was called on Friday morning. The assembly was called to deal with issues surrounding the apparent abuse and misuse of the Sixth Form Centre and its facilities, including the vandalism of the same vending machine reported on by RS Magazine which caused controversy last month after the announcement of a new pricing scheme.

Other topics discussed during the assembly included the apparent lack of cleanliness within the Centre itself, a consequence of constant neglect by all Sixth Formers according to Senior Management officials.
Deputy Head Teacher, Mrs. Jan Turner, stressed that it was the responsibility of all users of the Sixth Form Centre to maintain a state of hygiene and cleanliness fit for a social centre, study area and canteen.
The exclusive area, which can only be accessed by Further Education students and members of the school staff, has seemingly been in a state of decline for some months now, and it was revealed today that there had previously been threats of the Centre’s canteen being closed to students and even the suggestion that the Centre should be transformed into an area for teacher’s only, forcing Sixth Formers away from the school at lunchtimes in search of food.
Today’s assembly also criticised seemingly uninvolved Sixth Formers, whose apparently passive attitude and apathy towards dealing with those responsible for littering and vandalising the Sixth Form Centre was seen to be as much a cause of the current problem as those Sixth Formers who are involved in the vandalism and littering themselves.
“It’s a complete disgrace to blame everyone,” claimed angry Sixth Former Richard Henshaw of Fleckney. “Perhaps people might have pride in the Sixth Form Centre if facilities had been better in the first place.”
The potential closing of the canteen and vending machine will no doubt be seen by many as yet another rotten shrimp on the already contentious barbecue that is Sixth Form Catering, after previous comments from Head Boy Adam Beer, who claimed that students were being charged too much for snacks and drinks within the centre.

Many Sixth Formers have recently become disenchanted with a vending machine which stands proudly in the corner of their Sixth Form Centre. I ventured to find out why.

For many, the Kit Kat branded vending machine in the Sixth Form Centre provides the staple diet for a school day. However, the machine, which contains such delights as chocolate, crisps and other snacks, has recently become a subject of much controversy amongst its users.
Prices have dramatically increased of late, by up to 30 pence on some products, which is almost twice their previous value.
Mr. L.R. Turner of Kibworth said he felt that the new pricing was a complete disgrace.
“Crisps have now gone up to 50p,” he complained.
“I can’t say much, spies everywhere, but it is absolutely appalling.”
No senior member of staff has yet been available for comment, but Head Boy Adam Beer, who is also a member of the catering committee, is believed to be firmly against the new pricing, speaking out against it in a recent interview.

What do you think about the pricing? Have your say below.

Almost two months ago many teenagers of the Market Harborough population were gutted to find out their favourite nightclub had suddenly closed its doors – for what seemed like – for good.

But Will It Be Back?

It was around the 9th August when Enigma under 18s Night was cancelled.

Many of you RSS students out there might have shown up on the Wednesday after, prepared for a night of dancing and chilling with your friends, only to find the doors firmly shut. Ever since, rumours have circulated around the teenage population about why the choice was made to close such a popular hotspot. So when the RSS online magazine was re-launched, and us reporters were given free reign to write about whatever we wanted, this reporter immediately knew what her first article would be about.

So, right away, yours truly arranged an interview with the guy in charge of the Enigma nights – Marcus. Armed with two friends on a Saturday afternoon, we made our way down to Enigma (18 Coventry Rd), grabbed ourselves a couple of lemonades, collapsed into those wickedly comfy chairs and got down to business.
The most popular rumour being spread was that there just weren’t enough people attending during the summer holidays, because most were on vacation.
‘That wasn’t the main reason,’ Marcus told us, ‘although it’s true it was being poorly attended. The best turnout we’ve had before is probably around about 350 kids in one night… during the summer we had a crowd of 86.”
Another more hazy rumour had been about kids telling their parents they were going to Enigma, and then going off elsewhere. Marcus confirmed this for us, ‘One Wednesday night, I happened to walk past the memorial gardens [near Tesco] and I must’ve seen about 70 kids there, most of which were drinking.’
Marcus told us his main concern was that minors were getting dressed up, obviously telling their parents they were going Enigma, taking the money and spending it on Cider.
‘Parents aren’t stupid.’ he told us, (I bit my tongue, deciding against challenging this remark). ‘They know if their kid’s been out drinking and they catch on to Enigma being used as an excuse. I realise it’s only the minority of young people, but I just didn’t want that on my hands’.

There was only one more thing that I needed to know. Will there be Under 18s nights for Christmas?
‘Definitely!’ was the answer I received. There will be two U18s nights for Christmas, but these will be Enigma’s last chance to make a comeback. ‘They’ll be the litmus test,’ we were told. ‘If we don’t get good results for them, we’ll have no choice but to cancel completely.’

So write these dates in your book December 20th (Christmas theme) and December 27th (New Years Party).
They’ll be prizes for the most festively dressed boy and girl, and these prizes are going to be along the lines of an iPod, an mp3 or some other gadget. Yours truly, and my two helpers, will be – if given permission – putting up some posters around the school advertising the nights very soon. So if you’re all for an Enigma comeback, keep your eyes and ears open.

Be there or be square!
