My favourite band of the night was either the Funky Monks or Return of ‘72, but everyone involved put on a great show!

Also check these photos out on Flickr.

There’ll be more photos of the bands appearing later on, after I sift through all 3GB of photos

So the annual Rock concert took place on Thursday, featuring the awesome ‘Sleeping on the Shockwave’ (formerly No Industries), which I have to say have come a long long way from their Metallica covering days.

Next up were Round 2 (my band), and we were pretty happy with our performance.

But hey, instead of me talking about it, you can listen to it, MP3’s are at the bottom of the page.

Then Funky Monks came on, which reminded me of Silent Devices in their early PSM days (pre-Josh Coyne).

As for Silent Devices, they were absolutely awesome, the most professional unsigned band I’ve seen. If you haven’t got their EP yet then get it NOW! Their set from Thursday is also being edited, but whether it ends up on here is up to them.

But before Silent devices came Children of Bowden and Return of 72.

Bowden (also with me) got a good response, well, Chris Wells kept harping on about how much he liked us, and I guess if Chris is happy then it’s a job well done!

As for Return of 72?

Musically? absolutely outstanding….

Entertainment value? The bassist smashed up his bass wearing a VERY tight batman suit with a courgette strategically positioned in the front.

And last but not least, the evening was presented by Dan Wade and Lulu, who did a top-notch job!

So a big thanks to the whole music/music tech department for a wicked night, and hopefully it’ll be even better next year!

A. The first 6th Form Party of the year of course!!

Give the 6th formers a challenge and not only do they achieve highest possible results; they do it in ’style’.

No I am not talking about grades, work or academic achievements, that’s the teachers’ job; I’m talking about Fancy Dress. Only a few weeks after the 6th form was invaded by pirates we had another situation on our hands on Saturday night. This time I was surprised to see no Jack Sparrow or Bootstrap Bill but I did catch sight of a fireman, a Polo and Santa Claus.

Now I know you are thinking ‘What is a strange combination of people to be in one room’ but the reason, I assure you, will be revealed.

Back to the topic of fancy dress. The idea of dressing up as something or someone different seems to appeal to a lot of people, even if it means looking ridiculous. I personally think it brings out the fun and creativeness in everyone and this was defiantly shown on Saturday. The lengths us sixth formers will go to either stand out or just look silly is unbelievable! As the photos below show there was a wide variety of costumes:

Well as you can see the standards of fancy dress was high and the costumes were great! All in all a great night and I think from the faces of the people on these pictures they would agree with me!

Walking into the 6th form centre at break on Friday October the 6th you could’ve been mistaken as to walking onto the set of the third Pirates of the Caribbean film. Pirates. Left to right, everywhere I looked I saw at least one swashbuckling pirate, including the one and only Jack Sparrow, I actually had to look twice to believe it!

But Alas! They weren’t swashbuckling for long, oh no! Due to the dangers of weaponry in this day in age, the pirates were stripped of their plastic, cardboard and even foam swords much to the disgust of one shipmate, quoted as saying ‘ Arrrg tis a disgrace!’ The reasoning’s from the captains on the Good Ship Bob Smith was that the possibility of an accident had to be ruled out and this ‘Sword Amnesty’ was the only way to certify that.

The bewilderment of the pirates longing for their weaponry back didn’t last long as the ‘Ahoys’ and ‘Arrrgs’ could be heard loud and clear throughout the day.

As the bells rang out for the end of what turned out to be an eventful but fun day out on the ocean waves the Good Ship Bob Smith sailed off towards home leaving all the crew to walk off through Harborough. Seeing a parade of pirates walking down Burnmill Road was a sight and a half I can tell you that!
