Argh… Buses…

How lame are the bus services in our area?

It seems the youth of today are being stranded and having to bug their beloved parents, still, in their teenage years, for lifts after the time of approximately 6 o’clock when most Arriva bus services have expired for the day.

When you’re going out for the evening usually it should be a pleasurable experience, well hopefully, but most people’s evenings consist of ‘what time is it?’ and ‘What times the bus come?’ Which really dampens everyone’s spirits.

The latest bus back from Harborough is the 10.00 which covers most of the local villages, Great Glen, Kibworth, Fleckney and then heads on to Leicester. This could be classed as being a little early for folk that like to have a nice time and stay out a bit later. Not only that, but you do risk your life on the latest bus, sitting with all the drunkards and odd people that seem as though they’ve just risen from the ground or something.

The advantages of the bus of course would be that it doesn’t cost the earth to get on. If you’re like me then forking out about 20 quid every Saturday night just on a taxi (which takes you 10 minutes if that from Harborough to Fleckney) begins to seem a bit ludicrous after the first few weeks in a row. Of course the price starts building and you’re left having to decide if actually going out and socialising is a good idea in the long-term as it costs you so much money and I can’t say I have lovely parents that stay up till the early hours just to give me a lift home when I click my fingers.

What would be best is that if there were more bus services that were more frequent after six o’clock and that ran a little later and covered all the villages. Wouldn’t want to be someone living in Tur Langton at this point, that’d be even worse!

I know a lot of issues have been raised recently about the bus routes and services in our area but something has to be done! Else our social lives will be ruined forever!

my 2 main issues with busses are that the services in Fleckney suck and there needs to be later buses (say around 1am)

Ironically enough, I live in Tur Langton, and the bus timetable does suck; the last bus is at 6.20. But using public transport is better than the other alternative- getting my parents to take me out. Can we write a petition to the bus company?

  4. In fleckney, there’s an organisation called BAG (bus action group). They seem to be petitioning for decent bus sevices (in fleckney at least).

There’s a petition form in the post office, but there are posters dotted around fleckney with information and stuff on it.
