DVD review- Family Guy Season 5

Drugs, rape and beating on the elderly…..And that’s only the first 5 minutes!

familyguy

What started for many as a cult animated comedy has now reached breaking point. The BBC have now refused to show it on terrestrial television, and have banished it to a late night BBC3 schedule. The reason, I suppose Family Guy is a little too controversial for the likes of them.
But really they’re sitting upon the funniest animated show around today, as Family Guy is a goldmine for truly historic satire that will make you wet yourself laughing.
The first episode of this colossal series has the main character ‘Peter Griffin’ going to the doctors for a check up. But when he screams rape over an innocent prostate exam, the madness soon unfolds for a 30 minute extravaganza that never lets up on the extreme humour for a second.
And for Family Guy veterans who have high expectations for this series, prepare to be blown away. The action is faster, funnier and even more surreal than any previous offerings from a cartoon that is leaps and bounds ahead of lesser shows, such as the Simpsons and South Park.

Seriously, this is the pinnacle of animated comedy. The question is, can they get any higher?

Family Guy season 5 is out 30/10/06

  1. How can Family guy be ahead of South Park if South Park was first?

  2. Josh

Family guy is alot further up the comedy scale than south park.
South park is just toilet humour, whilst family guy is all that and much more.

  3. Yeah fine thats your opinion i don’t agree with it for reasons i will say in a bit, but my point is just that South Park has done everything first so Family Guy can’t be ahead. I like both programmes, obviouslly you can tell i prefer South Park, but when it comes down to it, South Park, Family Guy, American Dad, Futurama and whatever other animated prgramme are spawns of The Simpsons.

The reason why South Park is not toilet humour is becuase every single episode has some sort of allegory or subliminal message. It may be done in some outlandish way but there is always a point to an episode whether it be political, social or whatever else. Family Guy may do this as well but at the end of the day, who did it first?

P.S By the way i enjoyed the article! Family Guy is good lol i’m not anti family guy…guy!

Can’t we all just like them both as well as the more satirical American Dad? And is it only writers that comment on these things?

  5. Thea de Gallier

On the subject of American Dad, that always seems underrated to me BUT can I ask is there an alien living in the house in family guy that spews green stuff everywhere every hour on the hour?? I think not.

  6. Josh

I agree, that alien is wicked, but it’s just not as funny.
PS. Never tell Mr. Grimadell that American Dad is better than Family Guy, he WILL kill you!

  7. American Dad vs Family Guy ooo i can’t decide they both rule, altho Stewy Rocks the house!
Simspons vs Futurama; i can decide, for sheer classicness, the Simpsons and for humour Futurama all the way!
South Park vs…Urrm NO COMPETITION(except all the above)

phhht… South Park is alright, but the prominant swearing and crudeness kinda ruins it for me. Now Family Guy is amazing. Hardly a spawn of The Simpons in my opinion. Thats like saying every cartoon is a spawn of Mickey Mouse in Steam Boat Willie, which to a certain extent all cartoons, are but Family Guy is totally original. Do the Simpson’s pet’s and Maggie talk? Are any of Peter and Lois’ children remotely smart? Family Guy has great original ideas and is so much more funnier than The Simpsons due to the fact it dares to say what The Simpsons doesn’t. The creators don’t care if it looses them that spot on Prime time because Family Guy is totally original and always has been.

    Thats my opinion anyways =D
